James Arthur Giff

James Arthur Giff, 21, of Worthington R.D. 2 was killed and his two passengers
were injured when his car struck a tree at the intersection of Freeport Road and
Painter Avenue in Natrona Heights at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 1969. An autopsy
was scheduled to determine the cause of his death.

Listed in serious condition at Allegheny Valley Hospital is Randy Hockenberry,
20, of West Winfield. He sustained vertebrae and left knee fractures and
internal injuries in the crash.

Another passenger, David A. Schwarz, 21, of Cabot, is reported in satisfactory
condition with scalp and forehead lacerations.

The wreckage had to be pried open for the injured occupants to be removed.

Giff, who had been discharged from the Navy this year after serving a four-year
enlistment, was employed at the Worthington mine of the Butler County Mushroom
Farms.

Born December 12, 1947, in Kittanning, he was the son of George W. and Jean M.
(Hogg) Giff.

He was a 1965 graduate of Worthington High School.

He was a member of Worthington United Presbyterian Church. He served with the
Navy from June 7, 1965, until Dec. 11, 1968.

Surviving are his wife, Jan L. (Beall) Giff; a daughter, Susan Giff, at home;
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Giff of Worthington R.D. 2; three sisters,
Mrs Roger (Phyllis Jean) Smith of Worthington, Audrey Eiline Giff at home and
Mrs. Harold (Mary Beth) Schrecengost of Rockford, Ill.; his paternal
grandfather, James. W. Giff of Worthington R.D. 2; his maternal grandfather,
Hamilton S. Hogg of Worthington R.D. 2; and several aunts and uncles.

Friends of James Arthur Giff of Worthington R.D. 2 who died Tuesday, May 6,
1969, will be received at the James A. Flick Funeral Home, Worthington, from 7
to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 4 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at
1 p.m. Friday from the funeral home, with the Rev. Harry Fink, of the American
Sunday School Union, officiating. 

Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial estates, Worthinton, Pa.
