Joan C. Claypool
Worthington
Joan Christina (Harkless) Claypool, 68, of Worthington, died Wednesday, May 13,
2009, at home. She was born Nov. 30, 1940, in Kittanning, a daughter of the late
Millard and Dessie (McCanna) Harkless, and was a resident of Craigsville for 50
years. She was a homemaker and an Avon representative. She was a lifelong
resident of Craigsville United Methodist Church and served on several committees
of the Western PA Conference. She was a recognized Rural Chaplin, a member of
the Rural Chaplin Association. Her specialty was working with senior citizens.
She was a member of Armstrong County Memorial Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary,
where she served on the board for eight years. She was a people person and could
talk to anyone anywhere. She loved music and served as a soloist throughout her
life. She loved her family and her two dogs, Only and Sweeney. She is survived
by her husband of 52 years, James R. Claypool Sr.; sons, James R. Claypool Jr.
and his wife, Tracie (Cogley), of Maumelle, Ark., and Jeffrey A. Claypool, of
Worthington; a daughter, Jennifer L. (Claypool) and her husband, Patrick L.
Porter, of Worthington; grandchildren, Krista F. Claypool, of Maumelle, Kelsi L.
Porter and Hailey N. Porter, both of Worthington. In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Harkless. Friends will be
received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the F. DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME,
Worthington. Addition visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of
service at 2 p.m. Saturday in Craigsville United Methodist Church with the Rev.
Jeremy Andrews, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Lawn Haven
Burial Estates. Memorial contributions may be made to Craigsville United
