Newton Edward Lewis

Newton Edward "Ed" Lewis, 66, of Chandler, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in
Chandler, Arizona.
 
He was born April 3, 1938 in Worthington to the late Carl L. and Olive Elizabeth
(Berkhouse) Lewis.

He was a 1957 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
Pa.
 
He retired in August, 1978, after serving 20 years with the U. S. Army. While
serving with the military he received an extensive education in the computer
field and served in Viet Nam, Korea, Germany, Hawaii and various state side
locations. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he began working for Digital
Equipment Corporation in El Paso, Texas, being employed there for 15 years. In
1995, he moved to Chandler, Arizona, and worked for Intel Corporation for 5
years making computer chips and repairing robots. He worked for Auto Zone for a
short time until ill health forced him to retire.
 
His hobby was repairing and modifying cars and was proud of his 10 second car
under 60 seconds. Ed was not a “joiner” but for a short time, was a member of
the Northeast Optimist Club in El Paso, Texas.
 
He attended the Chandler United Methodist Church.
 
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Miller) Lewis; three sons, Edward Ross,
Jeffrey Carl and Gerald Allen Lewis; one daughter, Michelle Ann Ortega; six
grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Lee Streeter of Sandusky, Ohio.
 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret L. Ritzert,
Dec. 19, 1969.
 
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Chandler United Methodist Church, 251
W. Chandler Blvd.
