Young Couple Killed In Crash

Dennis Lee Weaver and his wife, Charlotte Weaver

A head-on automobile-truck crash claimed the lives of a Greensburg R.D. 3 couple
Friday night, Oct. 2, 1964, and placed their two children and the truck driver
in the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash took place one mile north of Greensburg on Route 66 near the Craig
Drive intersection.

Dead are: Dennis L. Weaver, 28, of near Delmont and Mrs. Charlotte E. Weaver,
27, his wife.

Weaver, the driver of the automobile which was headed toward Greensburg, died
one and a half hours after the crash, from chest and head injuries, in
Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.

His wife died in the same hospital three hours after the crash as a result of
back injuries, a fractured arm and leg and multiple lacerations and contusions.

Three-year-old Todd Weaver was in fair condition with a head injury and facial
cuts and bruises.

One-year-old Jennifer Weaver was in fair condition with possible head injuries.

The truck driver, James Bughler, 51, of Harris Avenue, Greensburg, was admitted
to Westmoreland Hospital with head and chest injuries and was reported in fair
condition.

Greensburg firemen and rescue crew members worked 15 minutes cutting sections of
the automobile away to remove the badly injured Weaver and his wife.

Witnesses of the lightning-like collision reported that the truck, the tractor
section of a semi-trailer, jammed on its brakes and went into a whipping spin on
the rain-slicked highway and rammed into the oncoming Weaver vehicle. The impact
sent the automobile into the ditch.
