Bernon B. Shank
Blairsville
Bernon B. Shank, 84, of Blairsville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at
Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born Jan. 25, 1923, in Commodore, he was a son
of the late Guear and Gaye Houck Shank.
Bernon served in the Air Force during World War II. He worked at Union Carbide
in Kittanning for 14 years. After completing his undergraduate degree and
master's equivalent at the University of Pittsburgh, he taught automotive
mechanics and diesel at East West Westmoreland Vo-tech School in Latrobe for 22
years. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Bernon was also a member of the
Harvest Assembly Church in Derry for more than 22 years. A caring and valued
friend to many, he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Ruth Jamieson Shank, of
Blairsville; daughter, Rochelle Helm; son, Bernon Shank and wife, Judith; two
granddaughters and their families, Julie Sturges and husband, Steve, of Ellicott
City, Md., and Jennifer Helm and Mike Funk, of Bel Air, Md.; brother, Carlton
Shank and wife, Frannie, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and two sisters, Betty Lou Pringle
and husband, Bill, of Sun City, Ariz., and Eileen Coefield and husband, John, of
Palm Desert, Calif.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Guear Shank; and
three grandsons, Christopher, Bernon Jr. and Ryan Shank. |
