Esther E. McCormick
Natrona Heights
Esther E. (Claypool) McCormick, 85, of Natrona Heights, passed away Friday,
April 23, 2010, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born May 22, 1924, in
Worthington, the daughter of the late Clark and Ada (Wilson) Claypool. She was a
1941 graduate of Worthington High School and was a resident of Natrona Heights
for the past 58 years. Esther was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel
Corporation, in Brackenridge, for several years as a teletype operator prior to
making a smooth transitional career change to homemaker and raising her family.
Esther served her community and country with pride as an active member of the
Natrona Heights VFW Post 894, beginning in 1978 through 2005. During that time
she held several key organizational positions including Trustee and Auxiliary
Treasurer, and also was a key contributor to its various fund raising and
veterans support social activities. She was a life member of that fine
organization. The McCormick's celebrated the "50 years of Marriage" milestone
Aug. 26, 2000, with family and friends at the Anchor Inn, in Natrona Heights.
Prior to her husband, Jack's, passing in March 2008, they set the marital bar
high with 57 years of wedded bliss - they were truly "two peas in a pod". Esther
enjoyed shopping, traveling, playing country and western music and especially
playing cards. In that vein, Esther was a "plank owner" of a ladies poker card
club that was formed in 1970. She enjoyed the camaraderie and fun with the group
that spanned four decades. She is survived by three sons, Roger A. McCormick and
his wife, Maureen, of South Park, Scott T. McCormick and his wife, Anne, of
Sarver, and Clark R. McCormick and his wife, Camille, of Reading, Mass., and
eight grandchildren, Brittany, Sarah, Ethan, Ryan, Marshall, Eryn, Adda and
Kyle. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband,
John T. "Jack" McCormick; as well as her two brothers, Donald W. and Russell C.
Claypool. Esther was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her intense devotion
and loyalty to her family and indefatigable work effort and grit were often
taken for granted, but will always be her legacy. She will be deeply missed by
all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Friends will be received from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle
St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10
a.m. Tuesday. Officiating will be the Rev. R. Cameron Malcolm IV. Burial will be
in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, East Franklin Township. Contributions in memory of
Esther may be made to the VFW Post 894 Ladies Auxiliary, 894 Veterans Lane,
Natrona Heights, PA 15065. To send an online condolence please visit
