Velma I. Simmers
Worthington
Velma Irene (Bowser) Simmers, 92, of Worthington, died Saturday, April 19, 2008,
at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, Ohio. She was born March 12, 1916, in
Craigsville, a daughter of the late Matthew and Peal (Bowser) Bowser. Velma was
a lifetime member of Worthington Presbyterian Church. She was president of the
church and served 15 years on the committees of Kiskimenitis Presbytery. She was
committee woman of Worthington Borough for more than 35 years. She served as
president of First Armstrong County Republican Women and on the Executive Board
of Armstrong County for many years. She was also chair of the county for nine
years. Velma joined the Ladies Auxiliary of Worthington Fire Company as a
charter member in 1947. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Donald; sisters, Edna, Vera, Doris, Lulla Mae and Grace; and
brother, Herbert. Velma and Donald have two children, Carlton Simmers, of
Worthington, and Barbara Bowser, of Cortland, Ohio. She had five grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Friends will be
received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at F. DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME,
Worthington, where a service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday with her pastor,
the Rev. Jonathan Speck, officiating. Interment will be in Worthington
Presbyterian Cemetery. |
